Well Discovered at Druminnor Castle

September 2019

The excavations by the Bennachie Landscapes Fieldwork group at the historic Druminnor Castle has unearthed a well which was abandoned and in-filled c.1800. Wine bottles from that period preceded by numerous unfortunate small animals (and a duck!), a coin and button - the last two requiring identification. The well shows nicely coursed masonry all the way down so far and, apparently, dug through the geological basalt dyke. This is the eighth year of work at Druminnor Castle the original centre of operations of the powerful Lords of Forbes. Owing to the kind permission of  Alex Forbes, the present owner of Druminnor, this year's dig has found the well belonging to the castle which was used from 15th to 18th Centuries.
