Trails, Tales and Tunes

September 2022

A promenade event taking in music, storytelling and history was enjoyed by families on Saturday. It was organised by the Bailies of Bennachie to mark the year of stories 2022.

Participants walked from the Bennachie Visitors Centre to the Gowk Stane to hear doric stories narrated by Jackie Ross. They then went to the colony ruin Cairn Couttie where music was played by Sarah Beattie and Charlie Abel. The tour finished at Shepherd’s lodge where the Bailies have re-created a 19th Century kailyard. A driving force behind the living history project, Christine Foster, spoke about the colonists and food – asking was it a feast or famine?

Vice chair of the Bailies, Ann Bailie said:

"Four tours took place on Saturday and we were really pleased at the level of interest shown by both young and old. At each stop we took longer than we had anticipated as people were really motivated to find out more about the folklore, history and music of Bennachie. Feedback from those who took part was really positive and we are glad the experience was a success."
