Week 5 - The Bailies of Bennachie Big Dig
In spite of foul weather on Thursday with heavy rain and the midges voraciously biting progress continued. Uncovered more of a stone feature north side of the Craigwell Burn with two iron objects, pottery shards and glass found. Colin M went off and reappeared with nice cake for all the brave souls as a thank you from the Bailies for their hard work.
📸 ‘Many hands make light work’ they say, not always! the roots at the Pittodrie site are profuse having largely been undisturbed for the last 200 years or more nevertheless good training ground for jungle archaeology!
📸 Emma uncovering more of the building in trench 1; here within the thickness of the wall, Emma found a metal disk of yet unknown age or use
📸 David removing the upper (younger) burnt soil layer to uncover a new inorganic layer natural sub-soil or another archaeological layer? Time will tell with further excavation

📸 newly uncovered stony surface/stone scatter between the garden dyke and the bank of the Craigwell Burn. It is wondered if the large stone at 90 degrees to the burn has anything to do with this stone feature!
