A Littlejohn Returns to Shepherd's Lodge
July 2024
Recently, a Littlejohn descendent returned to the Colony on Bennachie. We were honoured to welcome Mary and Philip Spencer from Ohio USA and their nephew Peter Crane from Sweden to Bennachie. Mary is a 3 times great granddaughter of Alexander Littlejohn. They had a tour round the Colony site and paid an emotional visit to the home of her ancestors.
As a special treat, one of the Trustees of the Bailies of Bennachie, Allan Will, read his Doric poem as if he were Alexander Littlejohn. It tells of having very little but being content with his lot and the very sad thought if he ever had to leave. He was evicted in 1878. Alexander Littlejohn and Elizabeth Kesson had lived at Shepherds Lodge for over 40 years until their eviction.
Mary had got in touch with the Bailies via the Ancestry website whilst researching her family tree. The family enjoyed their visit to Bennachie and the Bailies of Bennachie loved being able to play a part in such a lovely story.
