Message From The Chair

December 2022

2022 has been an eventful year for the Bailies of Bennachie.  We have been in recovery mode from the impact of the pandemic and Storm Arwen on our activities and our resources.  Those of you who visit the hill will still see these impacts in fallen trees and blocked paths.

Our work parties have resumed and started to make a difference after our enforced standdown.  We have installed bin stores to better manage the litter issues on the paths around the Visitor Centre.  Internally, we have used this year to undertake a number of steps to improve our robustness as a charity and our efficiency in working together.  As such, the charity is well placed for 2023 and beyond.

2023 is a big year for us; our 50th anniversary.  Although much has changed in those 50 years, the Bailies’ unwavering dedication to the hill, in all its various aspects, has remained steadfast.  We have exciting projects in the pipeline for next year and beyond to improve both the habitat and the visitor experience.

We are conscious that the pressure on the hill from all aspects has never been greater. At the Bailies we strive make a difference through our activities and our people.  To rephrase those immortal words:

Ask not what Bennachie can do for you – ask what you can do for Bennachie.

This has never been a truer sentiment.  If this simple phrase has struck a chord with you, we would love for you to join us in the capacity of member, volunteer or trustee.  Please see our website (https://www.bailiesofbennachie.co.uk) for the broad range of activities we undertake or contact us at info@bailiesofbennachie.co.uk.

Can I close by wishing you all a peaceful and happy Xmas and new year and I look forward to meeting you at some of our events in the new year.
