Bailies of Bennachie Annual Summer Picnic - August 2012

August 2012

The sun smiled - at least at times- on the Bailies of Bennachie annual get-together for their summer picnic on sunday, unlike last year the gallant Garioch Fiddlers did not have to abandon their recital but kept the crowd happy with their toe-tapping, sing along selection of traditional favourites. Senior Bailie Jackie Cumberbirch welcomed the gathering and announced this year’s Bennachie picnic quiz – prizes were Bailies of Bennachie car-stickers.Membership and website Bailie Donna Taylor did good trade selling the 2013 Bailies calendar while Bailies clerk Brian Cornock generously went round with his flagon of home-made Heather wine. The Bailies are already making plans for next year when they will be celebrating their Ruby anniversary. Said Senior Bailie Jackie Cumberbirch: “ We’re not sure yet what we will do but for 40 years it will be something very special.” At its establishment in 1973 the Bailies set out their aims to work to conserve the social and natural history of Bennachie.
