Bennachie Landscapes Weekend Dig

May 2012

The sun was shining and approx 30+ people gathered outside the Bennachie Centre at 10am on saturday and sunday mornings, it was great to see such a range of ages and abilities, for some it was their first dig and others were a lot more experienced, we walked up to the old colony houses at Hillsyde, some people spent the day clearing grass and weeds off of the buildings while others were measuring and recording the site, every now and again there would be a shout when someone found something interesting. On 2nd June at the Bennachie Centre Aberdeen University Archaeology Department's Rick Knecht will be looking at and discussing the finds from the recent Bennachie Colony excavation. He will also be giving a general overview of late 18th and 19th century pottery to be found in the North-East.
