2017 Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology

GREAT NEWS!!!

The Bailies of Bennachie have just received a grant award of £10,000 from Heritage Lottery Fund as part of 2017 Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.Thank You!

We are interested to hear from anyone who would like to get involved!

This grant will help us to:

1) Improving our website so that we can share our information (photos, oral history – audio extracts, excavation info, genealogy, etc.)

2) Creation of a Bennachie Colony App. which will involve a 3D reconstruction of a colony house. The Colonist lived on the slopes of Bennachie in the mid19th and early 20th Century

3) Research and replant a native woodland and small garden at Shepherds lodge ( Colony house).

5) Create a play about the Bennachie Colonists to be performed in September 2017 outside and close to the Bennachie Centre - led by Aberdeen University

We will be working in partnership with Smart History and Aberdeen University.

We are supported by Aberdeenshire Council and Forestry Commission Scotland

Our first event run by Smart History is “Digital Bennachie” a taster workshop on Saturday 11 February 10.00am – 4pm at Garioch Community Centre, Inverurie
The “Digital Bennachie” workshop will offer a “taste” of the elements needed to create the mobile application that will create an interest in the Bennachie colony houses

If interested please contact us bailiesofbennachie@mail.com
