Aberdeen Archaeology Lecture
November 2015
On Monday 6th November University of Aberdeen archaeology lecturer Jeff Oliver held a Café Conversation at the Acorn Centre, Inverurie. In this he gave an illustrated lecture on the 2013 excavations and ongoing research about the Colony houses on Bennachie explaining how some of the finding challenged existing assumptions about the way of life and agricultural habits of the colonists.
The audience, who included several Bailies of Bennachie, then engaged in a lively discussion about the lecture including comparisons with other similar rural settlements in Scotland. The value of cooperation between academics and community researchers was highlighted, with the series of Bennachie Landscapes publications as an example.
