Bosie Cash Handed to Charities

July 2019

A charity walk which formed a ring around the top of Mither Tap, the most distinctive peak of Bennachie, has raised £3840 for charity.

The walk was organised by conservation charity, the Bailies of Bennachie, who have given the profits from the entry fee to Breast Cancer Care, the University of Aberdeen Development Trust’s breast cancer research programme, and the Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team.

Cheques of £1280 each were handed over on Monday 15th July at Macdonald Pittodrie Hotel with the hill in the background. Commenting the outreach officer of the Bailies of Bennachie, Fiona Cormack, said,

“We are delighted to present this money to these very worthy charities. Thanks go to everyone who took part in the walk and the many people who made additional donations.”
“Mither Tap means mother’s breast so we decided to raise money for breast cancer charities and we know that this made the walk especially meaningful for many of the people who took part.”
“The mountain rescue team do a fabulous job of helping anyone who becomes in difficulty on the hill and we are pleased we have been able to support them through this event.”

Angela Harris, Head of Scotland at Breast Cancer Care & Breast Cancer Now, added,

"We're so grateful to the Bailies of Bennachie for holding Bennachie's Biggest Bosie in aid of the organisation. The money raised will help us continue to provide free support services. It will also fund the world's brightest researchers who work tirelessly to fill in the gaps in our knowledge of breast cancer.”

Professor Valerie Spiers from the University Development Trust said,

"We are incredibly grateful to the Bailies of Bennachie and to everyone who took part in the Biggest Bosie. It was a fantastic event and we were delighted to be involved. My team of researchers at the University of Aberdeen is working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, and we're always humbled by the huge amount of support we get from the people across the North East."

Stuart Warrender team leader of Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team said,

“The amount raised for all three charities is amazing. This donation will enable us to replace equipment which is vital part of the service we provide. It has been a great experience working with the Bailies.”

Fiona Cormack added,

“As well as raising this fantastic sum the bosie demonstrated the special place Bennachie has in the hearts of people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. This is a unique landscape and this event has raised the profile of the hill and the work the Bailies of Bennachie do to protect it.”
“We would like to thank Macdonald hotels for welcoming us into the hotel for this occasion.”
