Membership Drive October 2019

October 2019

The Bailies of Bennachie is conducting a membership drive throughout October. Everyone who joins the conservation charity during the month will be entered into a prize draw to win a voucher for afternoon tea for two at Pittodrie House Hotel.

Their outreach officer Fiona Cormack explained:

“The Bailies of Bennachie is a community group of volunteers who love the hill and work to care for its natural environment, history and culture. We are having this membership drive to promote all the work the Bailies do and encourage people to come and join us. It costs just ten pounds for life membership of the Bailies: details are on our web site www.bailiesofbennachie.co.uk and on our Facebook page. Joining shows support for the aims of the charity and will give new members the opportunity to find out more and become involved with some of the activities carried out by the Bailies.”

“Membership is healthy with over two thousand life members but any organisation benefits from having new people join and we welcome new members from all ages and backgrounds. A social media campaign throughout October will illustrate what makes people become members by featuring existing Bailies and sharing their stories.”

The Bailies have a monthly work party who help maintain the footpaths on the hill. There is also a wildlife group who have regular outings and projects studying the animal and plant life on the hill. A very active Bennachie Landscapes Group has been involved in various projects such as the archaeology and history of the Bennachie Colonists and the Bede House on the Pittodrie Estate.

Various other events are carried out throughout the year such as the recent Bosie on Bennachie in June 2019 and the memorial walk for the airmen killed in crashes on Bennachie which took place in September 2019.
