The Big Summer Dig Summary
November 2024
The Bailies of Bennachie Big Summer Dig at Pittodrie 2024 proved to be a success in attracting many new faces. Lots of positive feedback clearly demonstrates a public demand to get down and dirty and to learn new skills in archaeological fieldwork. Some of the volunteers have already moved on into pursuing archaeology further. Some have also been taking part in our other site at Drumminor Castle and all are keen to return to Bennachie for next summer’s dig to uncover more of its rich history.
Alas, the fieldwork is over and the winter nights are drawing in. It is time now to start processing, cataloguing and photographing all the small finds found this season and to sit down with a cup of tea and do the all-important report writing.
A very big thank you to all the volunteers that made it along this season and we look forward to seeing you again next summer!
Here are a few photographs for your album to celebrate and remember your time with us on the Hill.
