Landscapes Forum > 'Dig' - First Day

Today was the first day of the excavations at the Bennachie colony sites. Around 20 of us met in the Bennachie car park and were split into two groups – one working at the Hillside Colony and the other at Shepherds Lodge. I joined the Hillside group where we spent the morning clearing the grass and weeds from the area to be excavated. The afternoon was spent planning the McDonald house. Armed with tape measures, plumb-bobs, graph paper and pencils we set about sketching and recording the walls and tumbled stonework. For the majority of us this was something we had never tried before so was good to experience. It was a lovely warm sunny day so got us off to a good start!

Great to hear things getting off to a good start, and I hope the last few days have been successful too! I would love to hear further updates from the 'trenches'. I was also wondering whether a Facebook page might be good to collect photos and spread news about the dig. Or perhaps contributing to the existing Bailies facebook page? EIther way, would be great to hear more. I'm coming out on Friday and Saturday so hope to see folks then.

It would be great if people would post their photo's on the Bailies of Bennachie Facebook Page so we can all see what's been happening.
